About J.E. Borst Equipment
The company was founded by James Borst in October 2017 after spending over 22 years in the industrial maintenance field.
After graduating with a degree in Electronics Technology, James began his career as an engineering lab technician for a transformer manufacturer. He was responsible for all prototype testing and data recording, including UL, CSA, and Mil-T testing. He also worked directly with engineering staff to develop new transformer designs, assisted with plant maintenance, and plant machine repairs.
Moving from the lab setting of the transformer manufacturer, James(Jamie as he is known to most), was hired as the maintenance manager for a large steel distribution company. His responsibilities included the mechanical and electrical repair of shears, saws, burn tables, and overhead cranes. He also gained experience in parts purchasing, inventory management, and collaborating with plant management on new equipment purchase decisions.
For twenty years, Jamie worked as a service technician and service manager for an overhead crane and hoist service company. The first thirteen years were spent as a service technician for overhead cranes and hoists. This included OSHA inspections, mechanical and electrical repairs, as well as performing modernizations to older cranes and hoists. The last seven years Jamie was the service department manager for this company, responsible for the management of fifteen service technicians and four office support personnel. While in the role of service manager, he continued to work in the field as a service technician responsible for large and complex crane installation and modernization projects. He also worked with the sales team consulting customers and developing quotes for new equipment sales.
Jamie's experience includes many certificates of specialized training for equipment manufacturers including Demag(including P series, DH, DR, and idapsy programming), CM, Coffing, Herrington, R&M, JD Neuhaus, P&H, and many others. As part of his duties as the service manager, Jamie also taught several training classes to customers. These training classes included proper rigging, crane operation, and inspections for slings, hoists, and cranes.
